Unit 3 Reflection
AI & Sports-betting Interview Reflection
My medium for my Unit 3 Project was inspired by my Unit 2 Project. Since, I already know that I created a Canva slideshow for AI and Sports Betting; in that slideshow I pretty much gave a sports betting 101 with articles that related to the use of AI and sports betting and how it might be beneficial in accordance with my research question and overall argument, from responses got via google form surveys. My research question from Unit 2 that I continued into Unit 3 is, “ Do you think AI driven sports analysis impacts the accuracy of parlays? If you don’t make parlays, how do you think AI influences sports content engagement?” However, this project I wanted to further this question but through audio such as a podcast or interview standpoint. In the end I chose to do an interview. What really drew me to something fun and chill like an interview is actually knowing friends or mutuals that have backgrounds in things like parlays and the use of fanduel sports. Having friends and just friends of friends overall just made executing the idea much easier because I didn’t have to hawk people down to participate in my interview although I did have to ask a few different people based on their own availability as finals season was approaching.
When it comes to the way in which I projected my project to my audience I gave an introduction to who I was and to the assignment itself. I introduced my research question and gave context to Sportsbetting for those who have no background knowledge on it, to make it easier to understand some of the terminology used by the students I interviewed. I interacted with my audience and the projected students to interview by explaining to them the purpose of the interview as a final project for my writing class. I was continuing from a previous unit that's overarching topic is about the relationship between Artificial Intelligence and Sports Betting; how the audience feels AI might be beneficial in their lives personally when it comes to sports gambling. When introducing my audience to the actual project it was more of a two way interaction but, the interview process was more one way with the students answering a particular set of questions. Overall, my audience was college students and I’d want these students to be inspired to possibly test using AI the next time they put a parlay in place or think about sports betting. To see how it might be beneficial to their own wagers and overall winnings. Despite the fact that this does seem very experimental, especially when it comes to risking your own money they could also attempt this via a simulation.
In more of a reflection sense one thing I realized in doing these interviews, research, and different forms of audience interactions. Is that sports betting indeed really is gambling its putting a risk on athletes to make oneself money. Its also something that most people aren’t informed on and its really not a one size fits all type of thing. You would think that the majority of the people that participate in sports betting might be athletes themselves but that isn’t always the case. I personally found that it's college students that are invested in watching sports and the lives of athletes. I personally would bet that the majority of people that participate in this type of risk investments in sports are most likely the same people that have fan bases made around more well known athletes like Lebron James or Stephen Curry. The athletes that people pay most attention to and even the teams that people pay most attention to. Since, I do know that some players or teams are easier to “figure out”. Are more likely to produce “wins” in the sports betting world or get you more “points” on your parlays and wagers. I believe when you think about this it makes a lot of sense. Especially reflecting on my own audience and the struggles I faced to find people that could answer the questions I had with higher quality. Despite not discriminating, my audience still became male college students that had some kind of relationship with sports.
One comment that was posted on my blog that I can reflect on is from Ryan, it states. “ These are good starts for source analyses; however, I think more substance could be added with either more detail from your sources or personal anecdotes. Overall good start.” This comment was on my Unit 1 Draft. This influenced my writing in a way of making it more personable. In my first post on what I eat in a day I showed a lot of my personality and I feel like it had more substance. But, a lot of my posts after that were “fun” but not very personable. I feel like adding that in makes my blog not only more engaging for my audience but, also for myself having to do the assignments. Another way I decided I could improve my blog was through overall formatting and adding images or header images to each post. I want it to feel like more than a required assignment. I also personally just feel like the posts look better with images on them. When choosing my images I made sure they mostly had some sort of relevance to the content within the post. So, for posts focused on my sources one of my images was a sports bets image with a bunch of different sports balls because that was my Unit 2 post with the drafting of three research questions and I felt like that picture best fit and also foreshadows my use of the question pertaining to sports betting and parlays. But, one thing I didn’t use when choosing my images was using AI generated images. For the layout of the entirety of my blog I changed the color to a grey because I felt like the yellowish color wasn’t very fitting.
