Reddit

Honestly, these podcasts shocked me. Despite the disclaimers I was still surprised by the content although, there was nothing insanely inappropriate in them. The actual titles of them interested me but the content was kind of concerning. Reddit is a place where there are no true boundaries, any form of free speech is allowed and the users essentially control the platform and filter out what is accepted versus what shouldn’t be.

In the first podcast, “Turning Hate on the Internet into Humor”, the artifacts mentioned really threw me off because of their names: Fat Pussy, Pocket Pussy, and Wet Pussy. They may seem misleading but, these artifacts all lead to websites with cat images. Reddit is pretty much a trollerspace; there are people who literally take over offensive subreddits by turning them into something funny.

I feel like these podcasts are just as unserious as reddit posts and users. In the second podcast, “ There was an Attempt”, a controversial seal was created and a man posted a picture of him mocking the seal which only created more controversy. The seal was ironic because it was supposed to show two groups of people coming together but, instead they were portrayed to be fighting (choking each other out). The artifacts used were the original seal of one man being choked and the new seal which was created to show unison but wasn't created in unison. Even though in the new seal it still looks as though the two sides are fighting just in a less vulgar way.
